Tall

About a year ago, I was in line at the register at the local Japanese bookstore when I saw a woman’s sneakers. I absolutely loved them, and as I kept looking upwards, I fell in love with the woman’s style. She wore these cool platform Converse Chucks with overalls, a t-shirt, her hair up, bracelets, rings, earrings, everything. I said,

“I love your shoes, actually, all of you, your style is awesome.”

Then she thanked me and told me she got them at the Converse store at the Pavilion Mall and then she said,

“You should get some.”

I forgot about this encounter until I saw her again at a Holiday Bazaar. Her name is Kim and she owns Giger Batiks: a company that offers diverse products with the famous Malay fabric called Batik. Visit her shop when you’re done reading. Batik is cotton fabric with printed, stamped, or hand-painted designs. I told her about our previous brief encounter at the bookstore, and she remembered. She gave me her card and said with much authority,

“Go get some now. They’re the best.”

I followed her advice; I love my high-top Chucks. I do feel a bit taller now.

I don’t do heels anymore, no pain, just Converse.

If your knees hurt when you wear heels, STOP. Wearing sneakers is better and healthier. My friend Gauri wears yellow Onitsuka Tiger shoes named Mexico 66, that’s the name of the style. Funny ah? They look super hip and fabulous.

P.S. I bought the skirt, but I made the dress.

Hace como un año fui a la librería Japonesa y cuando estaba en la fila para pagar noté los tenis de plataforma de la señora que estaba pagando. Me gustaron tanto que seguí admirándola toda: sus overoles, su camiseta, sus pulseras, sus aretes, y su pelo alzado. Le dije,

“Me encantan tus zapatos, más bien tu estilo, es fantástico.”

Me dio las gracias y me dijo que los había comprado en la tienda de Converse en el centro comercial Pavilion.

 “Deberías de comprarte unos” me dijo.  

Me olvidé de este encuentro hasta que la volví a ver en su puesto durante la Navidad. Se llama Kim y es dueña de Ginger Batiks, una compañía que vende productos hechos con la tela Malaya que se llama Batik. Esta tela tiene sus diseños impresos, estampados, o pintados a mano. Le mencioné nuestro encuentro anterior en la librería y me dijo que se acordaba. Me dió su tarjeta y me ordenó,

 “Ve y cómprate un par hoy mismo. Son de lo mejor.”                                                      

Obedecí y me encantan mis Chucks altos, sí que me siento más alta.

Ya no uso zapatillas, le dije no más al dolor y sí a mis Converse.

Si te duelen las rodillas por usar zapatillas, PARA. Los tenis son la mejor opción y más saludables. Mi amiga Gauri tiene unos Onitsuka Tiger tenis amarillos y me encantan, especialmente porque se llaman Mexico 66. ¿Coincidencia? Estan bellos.
